Rhode Island authorities and the U.S. Marshals Service are seeking the arrest of Olalekan Abimbola Olawusi, 48, a Nigerian man added to the “15 Most Wanted” fugitives list for charges of murder, severe bodily harm to a child, and fleeing prosecution. A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to his capture.
Olawusi faces charges for the April 2017 abuse of his 3-month-old son in Providence, Rhode Island. Emergency personnel found the infant with extensive injuries, including a skull fracture, brain trauma, and multiple fractures. The child, initially resuscitated, tragically died six months later. After an initial charge of first-degree child abuse, Olawusi was released on bail but fled the U.S. before the case escalated to murder. He is believed to be hiding in Nigeria with possible support from relatives.
“Mr. Olawusi is wanted for the abuse and murder of an innocent child and has fled the country to avoid justice,” stated U.S. Marshals Service Director Ronald L. Davis. “His addition to the Most Wanted list highlights the severe nature of his crimes and the continued risk he poses. We are committed to using all resources to bring him to justice.”
Olawusi, also known as Olekun Olawusi, is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information can contact the U.S. Marshals at 1-877-WANTED2 (926-8332) or through the USMS Tips App.
The “15 Most Wanted” programme targets high-risk fugitives, leading to over 250 captures since 1983. In 2023 alone, U.S. Marshals task forces resolved nearly 86,000 warrants in cooperation with multiple law enforcement agencies.
