The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of two individuals and injuries to two others following an armed attack early Monday in Abeokuta. The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Diamond Dumplings, located in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of the city, according to a statement by SP Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson.

Odutola detailed that three armed men in an unregistered black Toyota Hilux confronted occupants of a black Mercedes Benz GLE 350 with a DLA license plate, demanding the vehicle’s keys. When the occupants resisted, the assailants opened fire, striking four individuals, including one identified as Ola (surname unknown) and Shobanke Oluwatimileyin.

Responding to distress calls, the Divisional Police Officer from Ibara station arrived promptly, securing the area and transporting the victims to the hospital. At the Federal Medical Centre in Idi Aba, Abeokuta, two were pronounced dead, while the other two continue to receive medical attention.

The command has launched a preliminary investigation into the incident, with Odutola hinting at possible links to cult-related activities. Updates on the investigation and efforts to apprehend the suspects will be provided in the coming days.
