The Abia Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of two persons and injury to 10 others in a road traffic accident that took place on the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway. According to the Sector Commander, Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma, the incident occurred at the Ntigha junction section of the expressway on Sunday around 5:02 p.m.

Ezeoma reported that the command was alerted at 5:07 p.m., with the FRSC response team reaching the scene within five minutes. Preliminary investigations indicate that a burst tyre may have triggered the accident. FRSC Crash Investigation experts are set to conduct a thorough analysis to determine other potential contributory factors.

The accident involved a single green Toyota Hiace bus carrying 16 passengers from Enugu, comprising 15 male adults and one female adult. According to an injured passenger, the group, members of the Church of Christ, were returning from a crusade held in Enugu.

Ezeoma detailed that 10 occupants sustained injuries—one female and nine males—while one person died at the scene and another succumbed to injuries after being rushed to Central Medical Centre, Mbawsi, by FRSC personnel, bringing the death toll to two.

She urged drivers to routinely check their tyres for signs of wear, expiration, and proper inflation levels to prevent similar tragedies. Ezeoma extended her sympathies to the injured and the families of the deceased and emphasized the FRSC’s commitment to road safety and ongoing efforts to educate drivers on adhering to safety regulations.
