In a major crackdown on cybercrime, the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended 130 suspects allegedly involved in high-level cybercrimes, hacking, and activities that pose risks to national security. Among the arrested are 113 foreign nationals—87 men and 26 women, primarily from China and Malaysia—alongside 17 Nigerian suspects, according to a statement released on Sunday by Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi.
The suspects were detained following a coordinated raid at a building in the Next Cash and Carry area of Jahi in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. They were reportedly using sophisticated computer systems and other advanced equipment to facilitate their criminal activities. The operation, led by AIG Benneth Igweh of Zone 7 Headquarters, Abuja, was conducted by officers from the Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Command and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
Adejobi highlighted the significance of the operation, noting that the authorities are conducting thorough analyses of the equipment and other items recovered at the scene. “We are investigating the matter and scientifically analyzing the exhibits recovered from them. The suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of our investigations,” he stated, adding that the public will be kept informed of any developments.
The arrests signal a strategic effort by the Nigeria Police Force to address rising cybercrime activities in the country, especially those involving sophisticated international networks. This successful operation underscores the ongoing collaboration between local police forces and cybercrime units to mitigate security threats and curb cybercrime in Nigeria.
