Peter Obi Criticizes Poor Road Conditions in Edo State, Calls for Focus on Infrastructure Maintenance

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, voiced frustration over the deteriorated state of Edo State’s roads, highlighting the difficulties faced by motorists. The former governor shared his experience on his X handle on Saturday after he attempted to attend the burial of Gen. Cecil Esekhaigbe’s mother in Esan Central.

Obi explained that his journey was disrupted by impassable roads, stating, “On reaching Agbor Junction and turning towards my destination, I was shocked by the state of the road, almost unusable by car. I persisted for 25 minutes until a faulty trailer blocked the way, creating a heavy gridlock.”

Attempting an alternate route, Obi encountered similar challenges. “I tried taking Ugoneki Road, which would also lead to my destination, but the condition of that road was equally disheartening, making the journey impossible,” he shared.

Obi urged political leaders to prioritize road maintenance and infrastructure rehabilitation over new projects, which he believes often remain unfinished. “The poor condition of many Nigerian roads is heartbreaking. Leaders should focus on maintaining, rehabilitating, and reconstructing our roads rather than starting new, uncompleted projects,” he emphasized.
