The Ayatutu Cultural and Social Development Initiative Worldwide has urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the recent violent attack on Anyiin in Benue State’s Logo Local Government Area. The attack, which took place on Wednesday, reportedly left over 15 people dead, including Bobo Tordoo Suswam, the nephew of former state governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Makurdi, the group condemned the invasion by armed bandits, suspected to be herders, who terrorized Anyiin and neighboring communities, resulting in mass displacement and leaving residents living in fear. National President of the Ayatutu group, Timothy Baaki, described the assault as an “unprovoked act of terror” and expressed deep regret over the loss of lives and trauma inflicted on the community.
Baaki called for immediate humanitarian assistance for displaced families and requested a strengthened security presence in Anyiin, Ayilamo, and other affected towns to prevent future attacks. He appealed to Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, President Tinubu, and national security agencies to take swift and effective action against the perpetrators.
“We mourn with the families of those lost and urge our leaders to act decisively,” the statement read. “This is a call to mobilize support for those who have lost homes and loved ones, and to end the fear that has been inflicted on these innocent communities.”
The group emphasized the need for decisive action to restore peace and provide necessary relief to those affected by this latest assault on the state.
