IGP Calls Fainting of #EndBadGovernance Suspects a “Scripted Act,” Reaffirms Police Commitment to Justice and Welfare

IGP Kayode-Egbetokun

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has described the fainting of six suspects in court during the #EndBadGovernance arraignment as a “deliberate, scripted act” intended to draw negative attention. Despite this, Egbetokun emphasized the swift medical assistance provided, affirming the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to the welfare of all in custody.

On Friday, the suspects—primarily minors—were arraigned, with six reportedly collapsing, leading to an outcry both locally and internationally. In response, the court set bail at N10 million for each minor.

In a statement released on November 1, Force Spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi, on behalf of Egbetokun, stated that all individuals of criminal age are accountable for their actions under Nigerian law, a standard that aligns with global practices. The IGP stressed the importance of maintaining justice without age exemptions, especially for serious offenses such as national security threats.

“The charges against the suspects include terrorism, arson, and treasonable felony,” Egbetokun noted. He assured that the NPF has adhered to legal protocols to ensure fairness and transparency while respecting the suspects’ basic rights, including access to healthcare.

Egbetokun also urged the public to remain unbiased and avoid premature judgments, asserting that the NPF remains committed to upholding both the rule of law and human dignity throughout the legal proceedings.
