The Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Benue State, Gideon Akaa, has clarified that negotiations are still underway with the state government regarding the proposed new minimum wage for workers. He addressed rumors circulating on social media suggesting the state had offered N40,000, stating that this information is unverified and not part of the official discussions.

In a conversation with journalists, Akaa outlined that the union has proposed higher wage figures, specifically N75,000 and N77,000, and discussions with the government continue around these amounts. He emphasized, “No agreement has been reached on any amount. We are still in negotiations, and the figures of N75,000 and N77,000 are what we have on the table.”

He assured the public that a formal agreement would be signed once negotiations conclude, dispelling speculation about any premature announcements on the minimum wage.
