The Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has granted approval for Kogi State to construct an international airport in the Zariagi community. Announced on Friday by the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, the approval was confirmed in an official letter from the Ministry dated October 9, 2024.

Fanwo emphasized that Governor Usman Ododo’s administration is focused on completing the airport on schedule and in full compliance with aviation standards. The strategic location of Kogi State, at the nation’s center, positions it well to serve as a major aviation hub. The new airport aims to reduce congestion on the Lokoja-Abuja road and at Abuja’s International Airport, while also benefiting 10 neighboring states.

Fanwo remarked, “This international airport project is a top priority for the Ododo administration, with potential to not only boost the local economy and generate jobs but to elevate Kogi State on the global stage.” He also highlighted plans to establish cargo capacity as a key focus of the project.

Expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation, Fanwo assured Kogi residents of continued progress and notable projects under Alhaji Usman Ododo’s administration. Located in the strategic community of Zariagi, which already has an airstrip, the proposed site met with favorable reviews from the Ministry’s team, underscoring its potential as a future aviation hub.
