In the early hours of Thursday, a storey building in the Jegede area of Olunloyo, Ibadan, Oyo State, collapsed, resulting in the deaths of ten individuals and injuries to several others. The Oyo State Fire Service received a distress call around 2 a.m. from local residents reporting the incident. General Manager Yemi Akinyinka confirmed that rescue operations led to the recovery of ten bodies from the debris, while seven individuals were rescued alive.
The Oyo State Police Command has secured the area to prevent unauthorized access and protect the safety of nearby residents. An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the collapse.
