The Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) recently hosted a concert at the Agip Recital Hall to honor donors and celebrate the achievements of graduating scholars from the MTN-MUSON Scholars Programme. The event, held on December 7, 2023, brought together MTN Foundation representatives, MUSON members, students, and alumni in a celebration of Nigeria’s emerging musical talent.
Since 2006, the MTN Foundation has supported the programme by providing scholarships to gifted musicians, making it a premier pathway for classical music education in Nigeria. MUSON’s Director of the School of Music, Princess Banke Ademola, praised the partnership, noting that the Foundation has enabled 457 students to graduate through its funding. She highlighted MTN Foundation’s broader support across education, health, and economic initiatives, including MUSON, as crucial to fostering musical excellence.
The MTN/MUSON Scholars Programme provides eligible young musicians with annual scholarships valued at N250,000, covering tuition, books, and transportation, culminating in an internationally recognised Diploma in Music. Executive Secretary of MTN Foundation, Odunayo Sanya, commended the programme’s impact, noting that many MUSON graduates have excelled both locally and internationally, performing at prestigious events.
The annual Donors Appreciation Concert serves as a token of gratitude for the ongoing support from individuals and corporations. This partnership, according to MUSON, not only nurtures musical talent but also strengthens Nigeria’s arts and culture sector by empowering young musicians to pursue professional excellence.
