Danish Embassy awards fully funded Master’s scholarship to NAFDAC staff

ABUJA — The Embassy of Denmark in Nigeria has awarded a fully funded Master’s scholarship to Iyadunni Akinlabi, a staff member of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), to study Food Technology at Danmarks Tekniske Universitet (DTU), Denmark.

The scholarship, granted through the Danida Fellowship Centre, was announced by the Danish Embassy in a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Monday. The embassy described the award as a reflection of the strong Denmark–Nigeria Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC), particularly in advancing agriculture, food safety and agribusiness development.

According to the statement, Akinlabi’s admission into the M.Sc programme underscores the growing collaboration between Denmark and Nigeria in building institutional capacity and strengthening regulatory expertise within critical sectors.

The embassy said the Food Technology programme at DTU will equip the NAFDAC staff member with advanced knowledge of modern food production technologies and systems designed to ensure the safety and quality of food.

“These skills directly align with our shared commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s food value chains, especially in areas such as milk production and agribusiness,” the statement noted.

The embassy also expressed appreciation to the Danida Fellowship Centre for supporting capacity development across partner institutions in Strategic Sector Cooperation countries.

Congratulating Akinlabi, the Danish Embassy said it looks forward to the impact her training will have on food safety regulation and technology in Nigeria upon her return.

“Your journey represents the very best of what Denmark–Nigeria collaboration can achieve. We look forward to seeing the expertise you will bring back to strengthen food safety and food technology in Nigeria,” the statement added.
