The 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) has announced its nominees, with African artists receiving global recognition.

Nominated for Best African Act are:

1. Wizkid (Nigeria)

2. Tems (Nigeria)

3. Amaarae (Ghana)

4. Focalistic (South Africa)

5. Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania)

Voting is open until November 10 on mtvema.com.

The ceremony will air on MTV Base on November 14.

Monde Twala, ViacomCBS Networks Africa’s Senior VP, praised the nominees, saying, “We’re excited to see African stars shine globally.”

Tems expressed gratitude, saying, “I’m honored to be part of the amazing voices from our continent breaking barriers and redefining music globally.”

Diamond Platnumz commented, “I’m happy and proud to be nominated; it means a lot to me, my generation, and Africa.”

Justin Bieber leads with eight nominations, followed by Doja Cat and Lil Nas X with six each.

Ed Sheeran and Olivia Rodrigo received five nominations each.
