General Christopher Musa Officially Assumes Office as Nigeria’s Defence Minister

Newly appointed Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), officially assumed office on Friday at the Ministry of Defence headquarters, Ship House, Abuja, in a ceremony marked by full military honours.

Musa, a former Chief of Defence Staff, was confirmed by the Senate on Thursday following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu, succeeding former Defence Minister Muhammed Badaru, who recently resigned.

Arriving at the ministry around 11:10 a.m., Musa inspected the quarter guard in accordance with military tradition before holding a closed-door meeting with service chiefs and ministry directors.

Earlier, Musa took the oath of office administered by President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Speaking to journalists after the ceremony, the newly sworn-in minister assured Nigerians that the Federal Government’s renewed security strategies would deliver tangible results quickly.

“My immediate priority is to ensure that defence fully takes its place in the country. Security is everybody’s responsibility, and building synergy within the military and across all security agencies is key,” Musa said.

The minister highlighted his commitment to overhauling the nation’s defence structure and strengthening cooperation among the military and other security agencies.

He expressed confidence that enhanced coordination would accelerate the resolution of Nigeria’s security challenges.
