Popular Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has addressed long-standing calls from fans for a collaboration with fellow Afrobeats queen Tiwa Savage, revealing that such a project is unlikely to happen — at least for now.
Speaking in a recent interview on the WithChude podcast, the “Johnny” crooner made it clear that while she wholeheartedly supports women uplifting one another in the music industry, she prefers to steer clear of situations that could bring “unnecessary drama” into her life.
“I believe strongly in women supporting women — and I’ve worked with many amazing female artistes over the years,” Yemi said. “But I know that the fan-favourite collaboration is the one with Tiwa Savage. Honestly, I’d rather stay clear. I don’t want problems in my life.”
The award-winning singer stressed that there is no personal feud between her and Tiwa Savage. Instead, she blamed fan rivalry and media sensationalism for creating the perception of tension between them.
“There’s no issue at all,” she clarified. “Most times, it’s fans and the media that stir waters that should be still. There’s literally no problem.”
This statement comes years after both artistes were reportedly at odds in 2018, when Yemi appeared to shade certain female celebrities for “editing their body parts” in photos — a post many believed was directed at Tiwa Savage. Tiwa had swiftly responded on Instagram, writing, “Don’t start a war you can’t finish.”

Since then, fans have continued to dream of a powerful collaboration between the two Afrobeats heavyweights — a union that could potentially break streaming records across Africa.
However, Yemi’s latest comments suggest that the long-anticipated duet may remain just that — a dream.
