The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that all public schools in Nigeria will phase out traditional chalkboards and replace them with interactive smartboards by 2027.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader digitalisation strategy aimed at modernising classrooms and enhancing teaching and learning across the country.
The plan includes distributing smartboards to schools, providing teacher training, and upgrading infrastructure to support digital learning.
Education Minister Tunji Alausa said the move will align Nigerian schools with global educational standards and equip students with skills for the digital economy.
Officials noted that while deployment will begin immediately, challenges such as electricity shortages, infrastructure gaps, and teacher readiness will need to be addressed to ensure a smooth transition.
