2027: Ohanaeze Denies Stopping Igbo Aspirants from Presidential Contest

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Senator Azuta Mbata, has described as false and misleading reports claiming that no Igbo individual will contest the 2027 presidential election.

Mbata clarified on Wednesday that the publication making such assertions did not emanate from Ohanaeze and should be regarded as baseless.

“Any Igbo person who belongs to a political party and wants to contest any elections whatsoever in 2027 is free to do so,” he stated.

He explained that Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide remains a socio-cultural platform for the advancement of the interests of Ndigbo and is not involved in partisan politics.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide is a socio-cultural organisation of Ndigbo and not a political party, and is not in a position to say, dictate, or even advise on who should and shouldn’t contest elections in Nigeria in 2027 or at any time for that matter,” he reiterated.

Mbata further encouraged Igbo politicians to remain committed to their parties of choice, pursue their political ambitions, and contribute to national development.

This comes amid growing debates about zoning and the possibility of a president of South East extraction in 2027. Political analysts have noted that multiple aspirants from the region are preparing for the polls. Frontpagenews.ng reports that this clarification by Mbata is expected to calm tensions and disprove claims of internal sabotage within Igbo leadership circles.
